Responsible for product development, product management, business and technology strategy, business development, sales and marketing, and personnel and financial management for Tagle Information Technology, a 10-person startup building document management interface software.

Managed strategic product investment, development, and commercial launch process for all new IHS products globally; lead implementation team for global products modules of ERP; and operational management of the IHS Calgary office. IHS (now IHS Markit, Nasdaq:INFO) is one of the world’s leading energy information and strategy firms.

Full responsibility for P&L, staff, strategy and operations of the IHS Canada business unit (representing ~$75M annual revenue, $40M EBITDA, 250 employees). IHS Canada was (and arguably still is) the leading provider of software, data, and consulting services to the Canadian energy industry. VICE PRESIDENT, STRATEGIC BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT / 2006 – 2007 Responsible for strategic planning and implementation of corporate strategic initiatives, product management, inbound strategic marketing and outbound marketing communications, corporate communications, acquisitions, and partnerships for IHS Canada. Member of the global Strategic Marketing team for IHS, with shared responsibility for strategic planning and product management for IHS Energy globally, at the time a $500M division with over 1,000 employees.

Member of the senior executive team. Responsible for operational, technical and strategic planning for the Canadian Business Unit of IHS Energy. Direct management of web technology and marketing teams. Member of the senior team, responsible for the technical and strategic direction for the company, including operational integration of AccuMap, QC Data PDS, and IHS Canada.

Provided technical and strategic direction for the company. Principal architect, project manager, and chief programmer for the second generation “international version” of QC Data’s flagship software product.

Analysis, architecture, design, project management, development, testing and support for AccuMap, a large commercial GIS for oil and gas exploration. As a senior staff member and partner, played a key role in every aspect of the company: technical, business, strategic, and operational. The company went from a startup in 1990 to the number one player in its market by 1995.

(Halifax, NS) Led development team commercializing my MSc thesis. (Company was founded by my thesis supervisor, Kevin Moriarty, then Chair of the Computing Science Division at Dalhousie University)

(Edmonton, AB and Victoria, BC) Various part- and full-time technical roles: design and development of Computer Based Training authoring tools; development of a competitive chess program; R&D of test tools for a parallel supercomputer company; and development of real-time data acquisition and analysis software.
